This is the final result of the glowing text tutorial that we will be creating today with Photoshop, I hope you enjoy it!
Step 1
Lets start off opening up Photoshop and creating a new 1024×768px file and change the background layer to black. Make sure your black is in the foreground and then option + delete.
Step 2
Now lets put some text in. Type in what ever you want, but we do want to keep it just white with no gradients or shadows or anything. You can also add an image but keep in mind that it needs to be just one color, and changed to white.
Step 3
We are going to give the text some layer styles. First lets give it an inner shadow with the settings and color below.
Step 4
Now we are going to do an outer glow. Use the settings below as a reference.
Step 5
Take the layer with your type and duplicate it (apple + j). Trash the layer styles and go to filter>blur>Gaussian blur and use something similar to below. Also change the blending mode from normal to soft light.
Step 6
Change your foreground color to the blue we have been using (R: 0 G: 99 B: 162). Pick your gradient from the toolbar, make sure it is a radial gradient and it goes from our color to no opacity.
Step 7
Create a new layer (apple + shift + n), call it gradient and from the middle drag your gradient out to the edge. Make sure this layer is under the main text/image layer (In our case the Denis Designs logo).
Step 8
Now create a new layer, make it the first layer and call it clouds. Change the foreground/background to black and white. Go to Filter > Render > Clouds. Change the blending mode of that layer to overlay.
Step 9
Now I want to make this cloud in the background less circular and more of an organic shape, so we are going to go to our layers and ad a mask to our gradient.
Step 10
Now lets go grab a brush. We want a 300px brush with no hardness and opacity of 50%.
Step 11
Make sure you are on the mask on the gradient layer with black as your foreground. Now click around a few times until you get something you like.
Step 12
We want to duplicate the gradient layer with apple + j. Drag the new layer up so it is second from the top. Now we want to open up our curves (apple + m). We are going to change the channel to green and adjust to these settings below.
Step 13
Now play around with the new layer until you get something you like. I am going to move mine to the left and mask some more of it out.
Step 14
Lastly we are going to add some stars to it. First we are going to create a new layer and call it stars. Put this layer at the top just above the clouds layer. Now lets get our brush again and drop the size down to 3px. Randomly start placing our stars.
Step 15
Now we are going to give these stars a glow. So go into our layer styles and set up our stars like the settings below.
Step 16
Drop down the opacity of the stars to 70%, and that’s it. If you want to add a little more you can and more clouds and change the curves with apple + m, you can also change the hue with apple + u if you want a different color.
